New European Confederation to Defend and Advance Cash
Denaria Europe is a European confederation established this month in Brussels to defend access to cash. Specifically, the Spanish organisation Denaria, founded in 2021, has integrated with Denaria Portugal, the French Droit au Cash, and the Swedish Kontantupporet. There is a formal launch of the association on 14 October in Brussels. Registration to attend is required.
The confederation will be chaired by Björn Eriksson, representative of the Swedish platform, and will have a board of directors composed of members from the four founding countries.
This is the first European civil society platform dedicated to protecting and promoting citizens’ right to access and freely use cash, advocating for the coexistence of all payment methods and for every citizen’s right to choose how to pay. Unlike other supplier-driven organisations that promote cash, it explicitly works with the civil sector, namely those responsible for the use of cash, rather than its production or distribution.
